The Three Musketeers

This is so hard. The Three Musketeers are together again. They are having a party at the Rainbow Bridge, but I'm not invited. Mufasa came to us at the approximate age of five over ten years ago. He's struggled with so many physical issues over the years. Yesterday, his body had enough, and we helped him join his best friends, TyTy and Texas.

We lost Texas suddenly several months ago. His story is totally amazing. Twenty-two pound Texas was healthy as can be for the 16 years he lived at the Sanctuary, having come to us at the age of three. One day, I found him inside a cubby - he had quietly and suddenly passed.
We were more like the Four Musketeers, and one day we will be together again. One can only hope.

TyTy

Today's x-rays revealed a tumor on TyTy's spleen and several in his lungs. One lung was completely obstructed. His gastrointestinal system was harmed from all the coughing he had been doing. Ty was bleeding internally, and at the end on our walk behind the vet's office, blood poured from his nose and mouth. He still tried to be brave for me. He wanted to walk, so we did. But then he was ready. I was going to bring him home and have Lap of Love come, but in reality - the best place for him to leave me was HIS car. Dr. Pierce and vet tech Amy were kind enough to come to the car to administer the sedative and the euthanasia dose. Ty departed quickly and peacefully.

Here are just a "few" pictures of our moments together over the past 10-1/2 years. There are so many more pics...but for now, these will do. Thank you for indulging me.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement and love and for your financial generosity. Dr. Pierce said to me, "You are looking at $10-20K in diagnostics, which aren't going to change a thing. If I thought it would, I'D pay for them."

I don't know what else to say. I am devastated. Ty and I were joined at the hip for all these years. We were supposed to leave the planet together - we made a pact. But his body just couldn't wait any longer. As I would sing to Ty: "Do you know how much I love you? Do you know how much I really care?"

TyTy is being cremated at Fosters, and his ashes are being returned to me. I'm having them make me a necklace with some of his ashes. I will show you when it's here.

I want to express my deepest appreciation to Dr. Robert Pierce at VCA Saint Francis Veterinary Hospital in Shady Hills, and to Amy, vet tech. You both made this impossible situation bearable. TyTy left us in his favorite place on Earth - HIS CAR! Truly, words can't express my gratitude to you.

Happy Tails!

Carissa Update

Who remembers Carissa? She's the kitten who was found screaming outside a local bar. Here's a snapshot of her life since she was rescued by The Little Cats Rescue of New Port Richey. Carissa was cute when she arrived, but she's really blossomed into a "Magnificat!" She's truly stunning. Cheryl can't get over how loving she is.

Turned out that this little girl had a prolapsed rectum and required surgery. We named her after the lovely lady who found her. Carissa had to be confined while she healed, and it took us a month to get her well. She was a brave little girl throughout it all. Carissa was adopted by Cheryl back in early January, 2022. Cheryl believed she was about to lose her 102 year old mom and hoped to bring some joy to her mother in her last days as well as for herself. Well, those "last days" are still rolling on, and Cheryl attributes her mom's longevity to the love she gives to and gets from our little Carissa. We converse about once a week and marvel at the miracle of this kismet.

Carissa and her humans are only one example of the precious lives you help us to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome, and we thank you!

Congratulations Milagro & Leon!

Congratulations to Milagro & Leon and their new parents! I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I'm doing both. Many of you have followed the progress of these two bottle babies for a while. You know how close they came to not surviving their shaky start in life. All my sleepless nights were SO worth it! Just look at these healthy, happy, gorgeous boys! A heartfelt thank you to our supporters.

TyTy Needs ACL Surgery

Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit The Little Cats' Rescue, Inc., and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

Why do we have a dog at a cat rescue, you might wonder. TyTy was rescued along with his mom and six siblings at the tender age of two months. She was used as a breeder, and she escaped with her pups. She was spotted by our founder's sister, who was vsiting from out of state, as Mama herded the babies across a very busy road. Long story short, TyTy came to our Sanctuary at seven months old. The person who adopted him was neglectful and abusive to him. We received a call from him saying that he would kill the dog if we didn't take him. (this person left TyTy leashed to a tree in an unfenced yyard, where he chewed through the leash and ran the neighborhood. He was locked in a bathroom all night long, and was hit and fed raw pork chops.) We took him, and he has been such a blessing! He had a horrific case of diarrhea and multiple skin issues when he arrived. We slept out on the screened porch until he could be acclimated to the cats. That didn't take long! TyTy loves people and he loves his kitties! He trains them to be able to be adopted into a home with a large dog.

TyTy has a torn ACL and requires surgery. We've already tried laser therapy and glucosamine injections, for a cost of $750 - but there has been no improvement. We've now been given an estimate of:
Consultation with Dr. Hay: $185; X-rays: $500; Surgery: $4,200.

So, who is The Little Cats' Rescue, Inc.? We are an all-volunteer sanctuary for abandoned, abused and at-risk cats. We have been rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming cats here in the tri-county area since 2001. Thousands of cats have been rescued from dire circumstances, including impending death. They were lovingly cared for and prepared for their own forever homes. Those that are not adopted are promised life-long care at our Sanctuary, where they live uncaged in a home environment. TyTy has given so much to the kitties and we desperately want to get him the help he needs to live a painfree, mobile life. TyTy will be 11 years old on June 15th. Won't you please help us to help him?

Cleopatra (1/18/04 - 11/18/21)

In April, 2009, I became aware of a beautiful, loving, healthy girl named Cleopatra. She was going to be killed by her "rescuer," because despite being in a cage at Petsmart for six months, a home could not be found for her. On April 11, 2009, I brought Cleopatra to my home, The Little Cats' Rescue and Sanctuary in New Port Richey. She was only five years old.

From the moment Cleo arrived, she was THE best cat ever. Always my buddy - always well-behaved and so loving. She provided me with much laughter, too. Over the course of the last 18 months, Cleo's health began to deteriorate. She was seen by several vets, all of whom said, "upper respiratory infection and possible dementia." Despite being treated over and over with different meds, the congestion never abated, it only got worse. Her "dementia" continued. I would give her wet food; she'd devour it only to return within the hour for more - crying out as if she was starving. It was as if she had forgotten that she just ate. This went on all day and night, every day. Even with all this eating, Cleo kept losing weight. At the end, she was down to 5.8 lbs - way down from her original healthy 10 lbs. Dr. Channel and I had hoped her T4 would show that she had hyperthyroidism, which is easily treated. Unfortunately, that was not the issue. Within a week, Cleo's head became deformed and her dementia was worse. An unsuspected brain tumor had taken her to the point of no return. Cleopatra would have been 18 years old in January. She will always live in my heart and mind.
Pictured are Cleopatra in her prime, and then with her bestie, Miranda (who left the planet two years ago) and the final picture is of Cleo saying goodbye to her friend, Lovey. Euthanasia is the final act of love we can give to our suffering furbies. This was one of the hardest for me. Rest in peace, my sweet angel Cleo.

Is This Your Cat?

Is this your cat? Found in the vicinity of Ridge and Congress, New Port Richey. I named her Hope, because I'm hopeful she will recover. Dr. Chanel feels she's middle-aged (6 or so). Negative for FIV/FeLV/HW. VERY sweet and purry. Very thin with muscle mass loss. She's getting antibiotics and sub-q fluids. She's safe now, here at The Little Cats' Rescue Sanctuary.

Tommy

Tommy is an FIV+ senior, whom we rescued from the streets several months ago. He had only 20 of 30 teeth left, all of which were rotten with a very painfully inflamed mouth. Dr. Elliot removed them all ($1200), so now Tommy is feeling fine. He was infested with fleas, and his skin is starting to heal. All in all, Tommy is a gentle old soul. Despite being FIV+, he's in good health. Perhaps you'd like to meet him and give him his very own home. If you would like to fill out an application click here!

Beautiful little Gabbie with sleepy Enrico.

Playing and eating sure wore them out! Milagro and Leon are holding paws while they snooze.

Oh my!

But why are we in jail?

The Kittens Need Your Help

R.I.P. Bernie Buff (BB)

Seven kittens spent the night at Hidden Oaks Veterinary Hospital under the care of Dr. Shannon Ivey. Sadly, only six returned. We lost little Bernie Buff. We are awaiting test results on BB, to hopefully determine what horrible illness took his life. Dr. Ivey suspects giardia, and medication has been administered to all kittens to that end. Milagro, Gabbie, Enrico, Luciano, Leon and Hoover have returned home and seem to be doing very well.

All of these kittens arrived at The Little Cats' Rescue Sanctuary in very bad shape, and I worked around the clock to keep them alive with bottle feeding, supplemental nutrition and dewormers. We almost lost Leon one day, but thankfully, I was able to revive him and set him straight. Today, he (and the other five) seem to be thriving - with super appetites and loads of energy.

On Monday, Raven and her three kittens will be examined by Dr, Ivey as they have now developed some diarrhea. Two medications have already been given to them in the meantime. Right or wrong, I had made the decision to allow BB to nurse from Raven, and she and her babies accepted him. I did this because no matter what or how I attempted to feed him, he would clamp his mouth shut and pull away from the food. He appeared healthy otherwise, with no diarrhea. Nonetheless, he was treated (as all are upon arrival) with appropriate medications.

I've included the invoice from the vet charges in the hope that we can receive enough donations to cover these charges ($729) and those going forward. Your ongoing support of our work is what keeps me going and together we are able to save so many precious felines.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
